The Weekend Comics Chat Open Thread - the I Really Need To Update My Resumé Edition!

Hey, everyone! Here's the thread where we get yak about what we read lately... and boy, what a week for great comics! There was ASTONISHING X-MEN #15, STAR WARS LEGACY #1, FLASH THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE #1, SUPERMAN BATMAN #27, CASANOVA #1, ETERNALS #1, NEW AVENGERS #20, UNCANNY X-MEN ANNUAL #1, GARGOYLES #1, 52 #7, and the best of all: ALL-STAR SUPERMAN #4.

ALL-STAR SUPERMAN is consistently one of the best comic books EVER, and this issue is no exception. It features Jimmy Olsen in a way you've never seen him before. That's all I'm saying. Just go read this fine example of what a truly great comic book can be...
NOTHING CIVIL WAR-related shipped this week. Wah.
So what did YOU read?

Dang! I didnt bring my copy of All-Star Superman home. I always love Astonishing Xmen! So Emma's officially a bad guy now? New Avengers was great and 52, go Ralph Dibny... think he's gonna put the suit back on? Also can't wait to read Justice, the story is so spread out, I almost forget whats happening. But Ross is the man!
52 was great... and there are SIX CIVIL WAR tie-in comic books coming in next Wednesday:
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #533, CIVIL WAR FRONTLINE #2, FANTASTIC FOUR #538, NEW AVENGERS #21, WOLVERINE #43, and X-FACTOR #8!
If you want any of these, y'all, make sure you let us know, as they tend to sell pretty fast...
Ultimates 2 was really great, as usual. I wonder how the Hulk got back?
Astonishing X-Men...wow. I can't wait for next issue...August...ugh.
I got a great haul this week:
Archie #567
Birds of Prey #95
Flash #1
52 #7
JSA Classifed #13
Manhunter #23
Noble Causes #21
Robin #151
Shadowpact #2
Just picked them up yesterday, I will read them this weekend.
OK, so I'll just fess up.
"Loveless" makes me feel dumb.
Every time I read the book I get more confused. I mean, they're up to issue 6 and I feel so lost. The way the flashbacks are dropped into the storyline sometimes makes me wonder what's happening in the current storyline and what's not. And, quite frankly I think many of the characters look alike. Hard to tell apart. And, wasn't Wes Cutter the brother who DIDN'T marry Rose and go to war? But yet they talk with him about coming back from the war, etc.
At first, I just chalked up my "lack of understanding" (read: stupidity) to the looong periods of time that went between reading each issue. But I recently went back and read them all together and came out just as confused.
So, if saying it means I'm a dumb comic reader, than so be it. Loveless makes me feel dumb. Duh.
Can anybody straighten me out?
loveless stinks!!!
all hail jonah hex!!!
Can anybody straighten me out?
No, you're beyond help.
I really like Danijel Zezlj's art, but it is a bit confusing over who is who.
Oh, and I'm completely lost too. And I really wanted to like this book. I will re-read everything and get back to you.
i feel the same way about Loveless, I want to love it but feel its a bit too muddled ,I love the art(Marcelo Frusin is the regular artist, Zezelj is just filling in while Marcelo recovers, and doing nicely ) but something in the book needs to happen dammit(something to tie the threads together). My favorites this week were All Star Supes 4 (my favorite book),Cassanova ,which was the best $2.00 I've spent this month,New Avengers and the Eternals, Flash #1 was a fun read as well. I gotta get to Ultimates, and Astonishing
tonite.....see ya in Snowtown.
consider Jonah Hex hailed...
You know what's cool about All-Star Superman? After almost 70 years of a character's history, a great writer like Morrison can still mine out some nuggets of gold... so don't listen when somebody says that they have to destroy a character to revamp or update them.
Baloney.
Is All-Star Superman in-continuity with the regular universe, or is it sort of like the Ultimate Universe, or does it take the original continuity, and then go off on its own?
g-evan the all-star titles are more like the ultimate universe, with no continuity to worry about...
Yes, and the "ALL-STAR BATMAN and ROBIN" is from the EARTH COMPLTETELY NUTS Universe... scary place that.
shadow: Thanks!
When does the next issue of Batman come out? I'm really enjoying the storyline.
I'm just glad I'm not alone on the Loveless thing.
Guess I'll have to check out Jonah Hex tho...
