Midnight Movies/Young America Horror Club at Dickinson College!

The next Midnight Movie double feature will be held on Friday, October 20 in room 235 of the Weiss Center. This will be our annual HALLOWEEN SHOCK SHOW so be prepared to be disemboweled by terror. Or something. The first film will be John Carpenter’s PRINCE OF DARKNESS, a frightening mixture of horror and science fiction that features Alice Cooper in a small role. The second film will be Ken Russell’s THE LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM, a loose adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel (the title of which is perhaps the least subtle reference in Victorian literature). For those who can withstand the shock, a special secret third feature will also be offered.

PRINCE will be shown at 10:30 PM, and LAIR will be shown at 12:10 AM. As usually prizes will be awarded to early attendees, and there will be a drawing for a DVD.
At the request of my children, Midnight Movies has spawned a terrifying offspring—THE YOUNG AMERICA HORROR CLUB. Once every few months, the club will feature a classic monster movie suitable for all ages on a Saturday afternoon. This is in part a recreation of my childhood, when I would be inside watching CREATURE FEATURES in New York City while my less enlightened peers were out “getting fresh air.”

The first film will be on Saturday, October 28 at 1:30 PM in Weiss 235. The film shown will be the absolute weirdest Godzilla film ever made—GODZILLA VS. HEDORAH (US Title: GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER). Children are encouraged to attend, and ads have been placed at a local school and at the Children’s Center. So come out and help teach the children of today that there’s much more to life than soccer practice and scouting--namely, sitting in a dark room watching a giant lizard beat the crap out of a pile of walking sludge.

Prince of Darkness is in my top three scary movies of all time! Great flick!
I still remember seeing it for the first time in the theatre back when I was in (I think) 10th grade. We joked for weeks about Alice Cooper making one of the guys in the church "ride the bike."
I saw Prince of Darkness in sixth or seventh grade...ugh, that scared the crap out of me, and I wasn't even that young!
Don't forget that at both Midnight Movies and the Young America Horror Club, prizes are awarded to early attendees, and there is always a drawing for a DVD!
