The Mystery Subscriber
- Guest Post by Brian Linnen
A few months ago, I stopped in at Comix Connection on a Friday afternoon and was greeted with the news that there was something in my subscription box. This took me by surprise as I had emptied it out on Wednesday. I was even more surprised when I saw it was an issue of "Manhunter", a book for which I had seen many good reviews but never actually read.

"I don't buy 'Manhunter'," I told Manager Ken.
"I know," he explained, "but a Mystery Subscriber who wants to keep the book alive wishes that you did. He bought some extra issues for people we thought might enjoy it."
Very cool! I often say that I'm going to do things like this, but then I lack follow-through. Whoever you are Mystery Subscriber, I respect that you took action like that. At the same time, I'm a bit angry with you, and here's why:
Like everyone else, I'm currently suffering as we wait for the book to return from hiatus with what are most likely going to be it's final five issues.
You see, after reading that "gift" issue, I was totally hooked! I purchased the final five or six issues of the series and the first trade collection. The most recent Previews features the solicitation for the second trade, and I'm really looking forward to that one. The book is a cool mix of DC legacy continuity, new DC spirit, clever and quirky dialogue, and eye-catching art. Hopefully when it returns in December, they'll make the first issue "new reader friendly" so people can jump on-board.
And you know, both the Mystery Subscriber and I would appreciate it if you checked this book out!! Thanks!

That manhunter chick needs to do something about those panty lines. I thought superheroes were a little more careful about how their costume looked.
Maybe a Manhunter(TM) thong?
Am I talking to myself?
Damn, there's a whole lotta TORS on this page!
You're not talking to yourself, I just couldn't think of anything to say.
What are "TORS"??
Dude, you need to stop obsessing about one drawing. Did you get into the cooking sherry or what?
"Tor Johnson" headshots over there along the right...
I was just bored and I have no life, so it was fun to screw around...
Yeah, Tor Johnson is my "icon" for bloggin'.
Brian, very cool post! Seems our Mystery Subscriber's plan worked...Manhunter continues! See what one person can do...Thanks Mystery Subscriber!
