The Best Subs in the Entire Universe

What can I say? The folks at White House Subs in Atlantic City, New Jersey make the best submarine sandwiches that I have ever tasted. Period.

And they are true submarine sandwiches... the inner bread of the roll is scooped out by hand and discarded, so that the sandwich neatly closes around all the ingredients and gives the appearance of a submarine. There's only six or eight seats at the counter plus eight tables, but you're not there for the atmosphere, you're there for the subs. We usually get ours to go and drive a couple of blocks to a public park down the street. And then we enter sub heaven.

Founded in 1946 and maintaining the same consistent level of quality local ingredients, White House Subs are worth driving the four hours for. Trust me on this. My dad lived in Atlantic City in the 1940s and says the subs were identical to how they are now... 60 years of the same goodness! Pop took us there as kids whenever we were near, and he and Mom would still bring subs to us after visiting my Aunt Bette, who sadly moved to Florida a couple of years ago thus cutting off that supply line! I've had them for breakfast, lunch and dinner all in one day, and then sometimes again for breakfast!

They open at 10am, but a line usually begins forming at 9:00 most days. Limos from New York and Washington pull up to get subs to take back to their celebrity fans. Bill Cosby actually had a running gag on the Cosby Show one episode... the joke was he just couldn't get alone to enjoy the best sub in the world!

Man, now my mouth is watering... who's up for a road trip?

Just added:

Sure beats the heck out of fast food...

Hey craigbox13 - The BUFFY #1 was delayed until March 14th (I think) due to a printing error (the entire run had to go back to press)...

Ned - C'mon, man... ROAD TRIP!
