Store Gaming Notes

HEROCLIX - Hey, I just updated the sidebar with all the Heroclix Play dates (thanks, Dave!), so check it out and come on in! Heroclix is fun to play and easy to learn, plus Heroclix Dave has some interesting Events lined up, like this one:

Valentine’s Day Massacre!
600 Point Teams All Villains!
February 10th 2007 in York!
February 12th 2007 in Mechanicsburg!

You are the mastermind behind a team of the vilest rogues in history. With your team assembled you plan and execute the most horrific crime spree in recorded history. With so much success you have in turn also made many enemies, not only of those
accursed, cape wearing, so called “heroes”, but also of other teams of villains just as sinister as your own. Feeling on top of the world but still a bit on edge because every other team of scoundrels is looking to take your place at the top you feel the time has come to take your team to the next level.

DMS Industries is holding its annual “Advance Weaponry Expo” and their top five scientists are going to be demonstrating their newest and most powerful creations. Your plan is to crash their party, slaughter anything that moves and retrieve the weaponry for your own despicable ends. Your sadistic band of miscreants has geared up and shipped out to systematically eliminate every single person at the expo in order to locate, obtain, and use the special weapons that each scientist holds. Only problem is another team just as depraved as your own has the same idea.

Now, on each side of the “Expo” a team of degenerate hooligans is poised and ready for attack with a crowd of innocent bystanders between them.

Scenario:

At the beginning of the game the judge will place the fifteen bystander tokens in the middle of the map. These represent the scientists and the people attending the “Expo”. Five of the fifteen bystanders will be secretly marked to represent a scientist as well as what technological invention they have in their possession. At the beginning of a player’s turn that player can decide to move up to three bystanders up to their allotted speed value.

When a player kills a bystander that is revealed to be a scientist the weapon that they were holding is revealed and placed in the square that the scientist occupied when it was killed. The weapon does not count as hindering terrain for movement or line of fire unless otherwise noted in the weapon’s description and special weapons can not be destroyed. The rules to pick up a weapon are the same as the rules stated under the super strength power for object tokens, (i.e. move action to an adjacent square to the object.) A character does not need the super strength power to pick up a weapon unless otherwise noted in the weapon’s description. Once a character obtains a weapon they are immediately granted all of that weapon’s powers. These we apons can not be used per normal object token rules in an attack, nor are they consumed when the character using them attacks. A character with super strength cannot hold an object and a special weapon at the same time. A character can pass a weapon to an adjacent friendly character by assigning itself a power action. When a character in possession of a special weapon is knocked out it drops the weapon in the square it was occupying at the time of the knock out. Powers obtained by weapons are not considered to be “on the dial” and therefore can not be outwitted.

A character can not posses more then one special weapon at a time.

Bonus Points:
Killing a regular bystander: 10 Points
Killing a Scientist: 15 Points
Control of a Tech Weapon at the end of the game: 20 Points
Control of all Tech Weapons at the end of the game: 25 Additional Bonus Points

Points are added to each side’s total victory points to determine the winner of each round.

Weapons and their Powers:

1.) BFG Heavy Weapon Assault Rifle: This is a 10 Range 1 Target gun with a damage of four. This weapon can only be used when a character has no action tokens assigned to it. When used assign two action tokens to the character using this object, the character does not take pushing damage for this action.

2.) TK421 Reality Manipulation Generator: This powerful device can control people as well as reality; it also counts as hindering terrain when not being carried. This weapon grants mind control within 8 Range to 1 Target as well as probability control. Feedback damage is dealt to the character per the normal rules.

3.) Omega-1 Force Field Emitter Belt: This force field emitter grants force blast, and barrier, as well as enhances damage reducers by reducing damage taken to its controller by an additional 1. (This object grants toughness to characters without damage reducers.) Due to the weight of this belt the character’s movement is cut in half.

4.) KRZ88 Antimatter Melee Blade: This super light compact blade is a ferocious close quarters combat weapon. This weapon grants the user Flurry, Fangs Claws Blades, and Exploit Weakness. This weapon can only be used when a character has no action tokens assigned to it. When used assign two action tokens to the character using this object, the character does not take pushing damage for this action.

5.) Trinity-Bio Meta-Human Combat Armor: This armor was designed for superhuman soldiers, as such only a character with Super Strength can pick it up and/or use it. When equipped with this armor the wearer gains the Power Cosmic Team Ability. If a character loses Super Strength while this weapon is equipped they immediately drop the weapon in the square where they lost the power and suffer 1 unavoidable click of damage.

Wow. Sounds like a blast!

Photographic Evidence

(L to R: Brian Keene, Mike Oliveri, Mike Hawthorne, Handsome Man, Heroclix Dave, unidentified fan)

Behold! Here's a link to a bunch of photos supplied by Mike Oliveri of the recent Brian Keene/Mike Oliveri/Mike Hawthorne Mini-Tour from last week... what a great bunch of guys! It's always interesting to yak with creative types and pick their brains... and so much talent in one room is nearly overwhelming! But Brian and the two Mikes make it easy and loads of fun. Thanks guys!

The only one I know who lives in a cartoon world

is ELMO!

I just realized that Elmo of Sesame Street fame lives in a completely hand-drawn cartoon world. Of course, that cartoon world looks like it was hand-drawn by a four-year-old, but it's a cartoon world, nonetheless. I guess he pays cartoon bills with cartoon money. Pretty sweet. Living the cartoon dream.

Hmmmm. Weird day, nothing important to post about (just yet)...
Let's see. Uhhhh. Went grocery shopping with Karen and Leni... uhhhh... hurm.

Oooh, I just stocked up on my favorite hair pomade:

I started using NU NILE over twenty-five years ago when I wanted to make my flattop haircut stand up more spikey, or dare we say "punky"? Been using it ever since. It's a fine product!

From the Vault #47 - YorkCon 5

This is a flier from another one of the great York-Cons that Ned and I used to run. Guest artist Tim Truman was working on SCOUT and the HAWKWORLD mini-series and had just completed his WILDERNESS graphic novel, which was about (historically accurate) frontiersman Simon Girty (and others) and life in old western Pennsylvania, when that WAS the WEST. Tim is one of the nicest guys in comics and very fun to talk with and made a perfect guest... lots of fun!

What do you think? Should we resurrect the York-Cons?

Sunday, January 14, 2007

OK, this is just too cool

I recently ran across the Mercury Joe website, where a man has a dream...

That dream? To launch his full-sized G.I. Joe doll into the atmosphere in a to-scale rocket!

Look around on the site and check out the movies (!!!) these amateur rocketeers make... very cool! I found this after-flight report especially interesting. Very entertaining.

Comix Connection-Mechanicsburg to participate in Midnight Release Party!

Comix Connection-Mechanicsburg will be participating in a nationwide Midnight Release Party for the Steven King's DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER BORN comic book on Tuesday February 6th!

-Tuesday at midnight, the only NEW book that can be sold is DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER BORN from Marvel.

What is DARK TOWER: THE GUNSLINGER BORN about?
A man’s quest begins with a boy’s test.

In a world that has moved on, young Roland Deschain will one day be known as the Gunslinger-but for now, he is merely a boy on the cusp of manhood. For years, his fate has been manipulated by the sorcerer known as Marten Broadcloak, who serves the Crimson King-an immortal shape-shifter living only to destroy the legendary Dark Tower: the axis of creation upon which all worlds revolve. And for the Crimson King’s plans to succeed, Roland must be destroyed.

Roland and his friends, Alain and Cuthbert, uncover a plot by the evil John Farson (also a servant of the Crimson King) to destroy the Affiliation, the network that unites the world’s baronies and maintains an uneasy peace. But Roland has another mission on his mind-winning the heart of the beautiful Susan Delgado, who he met in Hambry, and who holds a secret of unspeakable horror...

For Roland, these are only the first steps on the road to the Dark Tower, where he will learn the true nature of his quest, and, perhaps, the secrets of existence itself.

Another Classic Cover - THE CAT!

Who remembers THE CAT? Nobody. But check out this awesomely perfect cover... it's got it all:

There is nothing more classic than a comic book which starts out with the following words:

"RAIN! MAKING THESE BUILDINGS SLIPPERY--HARD TO HOLD ON!

LOOKS LIKE MY FIRST TIME OUT IN THIS RIG--MIGHT ALSO BE MY LAST!"

Whereas, I would be saying:

"I'M SLIP-- AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

The Coolest Christmas Gift I Got This Year

Is my LEXAR Flash Drive (which I have been calling a "Zip Stick" until recently corrected.)

I know, I know... that's not very exciting or anything, but you can just NOT IMAGINE how effortless this makes the transfer of data between the stores and my home computer. Back in the '90s I used to use a TAPE BACKUP system for the luvva Pete, and was ecstatic when we installed ZIP DRIVES on the computers. Then I switched to using ARJ-type backups, which required about 8-10 minutes per "disk set", and I would make three sets because of the possibility of errors (which actually cropped up quite often, requiring a return trip to the stores... GRRRRR.) And that was just for the DATA files backup, not everything! So now I stick this tiny thing that I carry on my keychain in a handy USB port and DROP-AND-DRAG the ENTIRE PROGRAM onto the Zip Stick -er- Flash Drive or Jump Drive and in a matter of 30 seconds, I'm back to doing whatever else it is that I do around here...

Best. Present. Ever.

Then to add to the fun, I ran across THIS ARTICLE on the ICV2 website...

Cool beans! Limited edition Flash Drives! I love it!

It's 2007

This year will be the Year of the Pig (18 February 2007 - 6 February 2008). Actually, it's the year of the Fire Pig. I'm not sure what that means, but there you go.

And for some reason I couldn't find a picture of a fire pig.
