39th anniversary of Man landing on Moon

Yep, it was 39 years ago today that a human first set foot on the Moon, a culmination of decades of research and the highest levels of technology. I was eight years old that day, and our elementary school teachers had us all sit on the floor of the lobby to watch events unfold on big televisions perched on top of stands. The Space Age was an awesome time to grow up, and every kid wanted to be an astronaut.
What are your memories of that momentous day?

I remember watching this on TV at my grandparent's house when I was 8years old. It was awesome then, it's awesome now!
I'm amazed that this event, and the following moon landings are ignored by our country today.
It's mentioned in history classes as a footnote to the 1960S decade and I'd bet if you polled your customers most of them cannot a)Tell you when it happened, b)who the astronauts were, or c) what NASA even stands for. The moon landing was a significant event for not only America, but the whole of mankind's future. We've thrown it away in favor of X-boxes and HDTV.
The Apollo missions should be celebrated with a national holiday, as should there be a day of remembrance for the Space Shuttle tragedies.
Words like "Tranquility Base" and "The Eagle has landed" still fill me with pride and yearning...
