Happy Belated Birthday Bugs!
Bugs Bunny turned 70 years old this week! He shares his birthday with the relentless hunter of "wabbits", Elmer Fudd. While prototypes of their characters made appearances in earlier cartoons, the Merry Melody short, "A Wild Hare", directed by Tex Avery and released on July 27, 1940, is considered the first appearance of both Elmer and Bugs in their fully developed forms. This short holds the distinction of being the first cartoon where Mel Blanc voiced Bugs and asked that timeless question "What's up, Doc?", and Blanc's recognizable version of the voice of Bugs is still the standard we know today.
So Happy Birthday, Bugs! And you too Elmer! Enjoy the cartoon!
That's all, folks!
