The Comix Connection "One Free Comic Book For Every Food Item Donated" Food Drive 2010 is still moving along toward our final goal of ONE TON OF FOOD! We are amazed at how generous all of you have been with your food donations to the York Rescue Mission and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank! As you know, we were at 1324 POUNDS of food donated previously! Well, we just got word from both the folks at the York Rescue Mission and from Jim at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

York donations this time around totaled 246 POUNDS, and donations in Mechanicsburg are at an additional 378 POUNDS, giving the Comix Connection 2010 Food Drive an additional 624 POUNDS for a GRAND TOTAL SO FAR OF

(Here's an interesting statistic from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank... they manage to gather 1,000,000 pounds of food a month, which goes to 550 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, and is equivalent to about 750,000 meals. If we gather 2000 pounds of food, that's equivalent to 1500 meals, or enough to feed ONE FAMILY OF FOUR -like mine- for over a year. Just so you know, food drives like this DO make a difference in real people's lives. Thank you all so very much.)

For you late night owls, tonight there is a total Lunar Eclipse, when the moon is completely in the Earth's shadow. What's special about this? Well, it's also happening on the Winter Solstice!

The eclipse begins on Tuesday morning, Dec. 21st, at 1:33 am EST (Monday, Dec. 20th, at 10:33 pm PST). At that time, Earth's shadow will appear as a dark-red bite at the edge of the lunar disk. It takes about an hour for the "bite" to expand and swallow the entire Moon. Totality commences at 02:41 am EST (11:41 pm PST) and lasts for 72 minutes.

If you're planning to dash out for only one quick look -­ it is December, after all -­ choose this moment: 03:17 am EST (17 minutes past midnight PST). That's when the Moon will be in deepest shadow, displaying the most fantastic shades of coppery red.

Third Food Drive Donation Report

The Comix Connection Holiday Food Drive 2010 is rolling right along, with the occasional "Organic Haggis Speedbump"! We are so amazed at how generous all of you have been with your food donations to the York Rescue Mission and the Harrisburg Food Bank! Ned ferried over another giant boxful to the York Rescue Mission today for an additional 117 additional pounds of food, which puts our total at 823 pounds! That's amazing! First donation report!

The Comix Connection Holiday Food Drive 2010 is coming along at a GREAT rate! You guys and gals have been EXTREMELY generous with your food donations to the York Rescue Mission and the Harrisburg Food Bank... so much so that we have to empty the VERY FULL barrels already! We packed up all the stuff gathered in Comix Connection - York and Ned just reported back that so far the scales are tipped at 242 POUNDS! I can't wait to see how many pounds have been gathered at Comix Connection - Mechanicsburg so far! That barrel is overflowing! I figure there's at least as much as what was gathered in York, so we're probably at 20-25% of our GOAL OF ONE TON (2000 pounds) OF FOOD! This is great and you are all just plain cool for helping out!
