10 Things That Still Work!

Check this out:

What is that? Why it's a TRAFFIC LIGHT!

Despite grumbles from envious rivals, Ashville, Ohio sticks to its claim that it has the World's Oldest Traffic Light. The light is now on permanent display inside Ohio's Small Town Museum, along with marvels such as the world's biggest scrapbook and a buoy from the battleship Maine. But it's the traffic light -- designed by Ashville resident Teddy Boor -- that people always want to see.

Free Comics given out by Comix Connection at Jubilee Day in Mechanicsburg!

That's right! Comix Connection's Joe and Jen are giving out FREE COMIC BOOKS all day today at Mechanicsburg, PA's annual JUBILEE DAY! This annual street fair is the largest on the East Coast and has been running for 84 years! At least 60,000 people make the trek to Mechanicsburg and walk the streets sampling local wares of all types!

The History of Jubilee Day™ goes back to 1923 when a group of local businessmen were in Gettysburg during a town wide celebration. It was decided then that their hometown, the borough of Mechanicsburg, needed such an affair.

During the next year the group, headed by the late J.A. Bushman, Manny Westhaufer, H. Clay Ryan and Russell Biddle, made plans for a gala affair and elected to name it Farmers and Merchants Day. The merchants felt that this day should be held to thank the people of the borough and the vicinity for their patronage during the year.

It was decided to hold the event in June during the lull of the Farmers' springtime work so they would be able to visit and participate in the activities. Trying to make it an affair that residents of the area would not forget, it was agreed with Borough Council to block Main street off from Market to Frederick Street and let the visitors roam the streets. For the next two years the affair was much the same. However, in 1926, some changes were made that are still in effect.

A main stage is constructed at the square where live music can be heard almost all day. Plenty of food, arts, and craft vendors line the streets; and most businesses have specials of their own inside the stores.

Read more HERE at the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce's website!

And remember:
For the safety and comfort of all attending, NO pets, bicycles, skateboarding, weapons, roller blades or scooters are permitted within the event area.
so leave your skateboard-riding, laser-beam-equipped capybara at home folks, but stop on by our stand and grab a freebie... Jubilee Day in Mechanicsburg is a blast!

A check for $160,000

Actually, a check for $130.00:

On March 1, 1938, DC Comics gave two young men from Cleveland $130 for the rights to a comic character named Superman. That $130 check essentially created a billion dollar industry and set in motion nearly 70 years of legal battles that continue to this day. Without this check being written out by DC Comics, there would be no Superman, and thereby no Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, X-Men, and all the characters that came into existence after the concept of "the superhero" was born with Superman.

Fluid motion

I could watch this all day:

I guess I just like the fluid poetry motion of surfing and skateboarding...

I always imagine the Silver Surfer moving this effortlessly through the cosmos. Wouldn't it be cool to see what he could do on a skateboard?

Shout out to the folks at Garrison Carida!

It was great to see this article on PennLive!
Beyond getting to dress up as an intergalactic bounty hunter, he said one of the biggest benefits of being a 501st member is attending charity events and talking to kids with disabilities or injuries.

“To be able to give these kids and families a few moments to forget their horrific struggles, that’s so rewarding — to know that something I built can give joy to someone,” he said.

We love hosting the fine folks of the 501st on Free Comic Book Day at Comix Connection - Mechanicsburg and at our big Anniversary Events at Comix Connection - York! See them in action at those events and please feel free to donate some still-in-the-package action figures for their charity work! You'll be glad you did!
