For
those of you that do not know: DC Comics is launching a new Justice
League title entitled JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. It will be written by
Geoff Johns, one of the masters of DC Comics, with art by David Finch.
The team will consist of members assembled by Steve Trevor as a member
of ARGUS for the protection of the United States, due to the original
Justice League marching to the beat of their own drum.
From left to right, the team will be comprised of:
Vibe
Seen largely as a throwaway character in the old DC
Universe, Geoff Johns hope to breathe new life into the character with
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and is even co-writing the first issue of
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA'S VIBE. Young Paco Ramone will apparently have
received his power to emit vibration due to the invasion of Darkseid
and his Parademons from Apokolips during the first story arc of JUSTICE
LEAGUE and will be acting as the guardian of a gateway to other worlds.
Catwoman
Selina
Kyle remains Batman's other side of the track's love interest, but as
revealed in # 0 of her own series, her true name may not even be Selina
Kyle. Could this cat burglar with a heart of gold have been recruited by
Steve Trevor with the incentive to be given the information regarding
her true name and origin?
Steve Trevor
Steve
Trevor is no stranger to being a part of team or following orders, as
he was a member of an elite military unit alongside the current
Deathstroke and Black Canary called Team 7. This time around, however,
he will be leading. After being unceremoniously dumped by Wonder Woman
and tortured to give up information regarding the Justice League, I am
sure that Steve has some aggression he would like to get out of his
system, and going into battle against superhuman and otherworldly forces
should allow him to do just that.
Green Lantern Simon Baz
Simon
is new to the world of superheroics. He was gifted the combined rings
of Hal Jordan and Sinestro before they were pulled into Black Hand's
ring and presumed dead. At the time, Baz was accused of something
heinous and used the ring to prove his innocence and then do something
no other Green Lantern had done before: he was able to use the ring to
will someone back from a coma and brain death. Baz's faith and strength
of will should bring something unique to the table.
Martian Manhunter
J'onn
J"onnz is a creature surrounded by mystery. He first appeared as part
of the Stormwatch team when the New 52 began, but he left abruptly and
not without erasing all knowledge of his presence from the mind of each
team member. He apparently feigned interest in joining the Justice
League but quickly ended up betraying their trust for unknown reasons.
Johns has described the character as a "one man Illuminati", being able
to be anyone and anywhere. Sounds cool to me.
Stargirl
Courtney
Whitmore was a member of the Justice Society of America in the old DC
Universe, having been inspired by the Star-Spangled Kid. Stargirl is
meant to be the public face of the Justice League of America. Johns did a
fantastic job developing her into a real and sympathetic person in the
old Universe, and I am sure he will do so in the New 52, as well.
Katana
Since
the beginning of the New 52, Katana has been a member of the Birds of
Prey alongside Black Canary and Batgirl. Tatsu Yamashiro carries a blade
that she believes holds the soul of her deceased husband, and she is
quite deadly and efficient with it. It is still unknown how or why she
is recruited by Trevor, but having a skilled swordsman on a team can
never be a bad thing. For those interested, Katana will be receiving her
own ongoing series, just like Vibe, going into the launch of JUSTICE
LEAGUE OF AMERICA.
Hawkman
Carter
Hall believed himself to be an ordinary human archaeologist, but as THE
SAVAGE HAWKMAN # 0 revealed, he is actually Katar Hol, a member of the
Thanagarian race and the adopted son of the Thanagarian king Thal
Provis. He was deeply in love with the princess Shayera Thal, but as
things sometimes do, everything went down the toilet. As Thanagar was
about to enter a time of peace, Daemonites killed the king and removed
all the Thanagarian's wings. The king's successor, Corsar, was war
hungry and believing Katar to be willing to take the throne from him,
attacked him with the intent to kill. Corsar was killed instead, and
Shayera was heart broken, leading to Katar's exile. Maybe being part of a
close knit group is just what Hawkman needs to make him less savage.
Green Arrow
Oliver
Queen has striven to be a member of the Justice League for quite some
time. When the team refused to grant him membership thanks to the
aforementioned betrayal by the Martian Manhunter, Steve Trevor stepped
in and offered Queen and his bow a place within the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF
AMERICA. Arguably the world's greatest archer, for now Queen also
possesses an unending amount of funds that grant him different types of
arrows and technology to do what he wants to do best: helping others in
need. Consider him a modern day Robin Hood, but without the theft, as
Catwoman has that down.
As you can clearly see, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA
will have quite the ecliptic lineup. If anyone can handle such a large
assortment of differing powers and personalities, however, it is Geoff
Johns. Be sure to reserve a copy of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA # 1 today
at either of our conveniently located COMIX CONNECTION stores. Our
